The Titans fell to Pasco Hernando State on Sunday (6 – 3). That loss ended a 9-game winning streak that started almost two weeks ago. When asked about the winning streak, Coach Beckman remarked, “I didn’t even realize we had that many in a row. It wasn’t until a player mentioned the streak that I realized what we had going. I’m proud of our team, but we’ll need to now focus on our next opponent as we face Central Florida on Wednesday.”

The Titans next home game is a Double Header against Miami Dade on Saturday March 1st a noon start.

Corey BaptistFreshman Corey Baptist (Seminole HS) was voted as The Florida College System Activities Association Baseball Player of the week after hitting .500 (11 for 22) with 3 doubles, 2 home runs, 9 RBI’s and 1 stolen base. When asked about his achievement, Baptist had this to say, “It feels good to be hitting the ball well right now, but it feels even better to be winning games.”

When asked about Baptist’s achievement, Coach Ryan Beckman explained, “I am very proud of what Corey accomplished this week. Not only did he succeed at the plate, but he played a solid defense, and did little things the team needed him to do.” The team prepares for its next game Tuesday Feb. 18 against St Johns River State College at 5 p.m.

When asked about the team’s chances Beckman said, “The boys are feeding off each other. They don’t want to let their teammates down and are always looking for ways to pick each other up. In this state every game is a challenge and every team is a good team; however, our players bring forth a great level of effort and a winning attitude.”

The Men’s Baseball team went 5-0 last week and moved up to number 4 in the FCSAA Coaches Poll. For the most up to date information on your Titans Baseball visit spcollege.edu/baseball or follow them on twitter @SPCBaseball.

The SPC Titans baseball team is off to a great start this season and has won 6 of its first 8 games. When asked about the team’s success, Coach Ryan Beckman said, “There is no rhyme or reason as to our success. Some games we have pitched great and hit poorly and other games we didn’t do well on the mound, but hit the heck out of the ball. The boys are meshing well as a team and finding ways to pick each other up.”

The hot start has caught the attention of many of the coaches in the state of Florida. The Titans have been voted into the weekly top 10 honors (8th) for the first time since the spring of 2010. When asked about this achievement, Coach Beckman said, “It is always great to be recognized for your achievements; however, this team has bigger goals in mind.” The Titans continue their season as they take on the University of Tampa JV team Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Joe DiMaggio complex.

After 48 hours of almost non-stop rain showers in the St Petersburg/Clearwater area, the St. Petersburg College Men’s Baseball team was able to kick off the 2014 season against Miami Dade. SPC hosted a tournament run through the Winning Inning baseball academy, the St Petersburg Baseball Commission and was sponsored by the St Pete/Clearwater Sports Commission. The tournament brought in 12 of the top Junior College programs in the Southeast region including San Jacinto CC (TX), Delgado CC (LA), and Southwest Tennessee (TN). This to go along with state powers Chipola, Miami Dade and 2013 national runner up Palm Beach State.

Coach Beckman had this to say about the tournament, “Despite the weather it was a rather successful event. We love the fact that some of the top teams in NJCAA baseball get together in St Pete/Clearwater to kick off their seasons. It was a great opportunity for us to see where we rank and it was an even better opportunity to see some good baseball games. I know major league baseball spring training does not start for two weeks, so for the local baseball fan, this was the first opportunity to see baseball games in 2014.”

The Titans will take on the Patriots of the College of Central Florida on Wednesday at 3pm at the Joe DiMaggio complex in Clearwater, FL. For the most up to date information on SPC Baseball follow them @SPCBaseball.
