The Student Veterans Association filled the stands at the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex Friday night to support the SPC Titans baseball team.

Supplying fans with all of their ballpark needs, the Student Veterans Association (SVA) made a big impact on the fans in attendance. One fan was quoted saying, “At first we thought they were looking for donations, or trying to sell us something. Once we realized they were giving everything away it made for a fun experience. We had a great time”.

Zac Gordon pitched well for Titans Baseball going 7 IP, allowing 6 hits, 3 ER, and 5 Strike outs. But that was not enough as the Titans lost to the University of Tampa B team 6-1.

Be sure to come out and see the Titans compete in the Clearwater Mayors Cup game April 20th at Bright House Field. They take on Clearwater Christian College for “Bragging Rights” to the city. Game time is 6 p.m. gates open at 5 p.m., admission is FREE.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, today’s SPC Baseball game at University of Tampa has been canceled. This game will not be rescheduled this season due to schedule availability.

Falling behind 1-0 early in the game, SPC’s men’s baseball team rallied behind the pitching of Zac Gordon, Austen Thrailkill, and Bruce Wong. Through 11 innings, they allowed just 8 hits. In the bottom of the 11th inning, Skylar Fox lead off with a single to right center. Pinch Runner Michael Tipton put the pressure on the pitcher forcing him to hit batter Jordan Savinon with a 0-1 pitch. Casey Jennings moved the runners to second and third with a perfectly executed bunt down the third base line. Then with 1 out, Sophomore Outfielder Lincoln Dunham drove a deep fly ball to right field, allowing Tipton to score on a sacrifice fly.

Monday’s game marked the 15th win on the Titans season. “With one month left in the season this team still has a lot of fight left in them. It should be interesting to see how they finish up” said Coach Beckman following the win.

Great pitching performances were turned in by Zac Gordon, Corbin Hoffner, and Mike LaGrange; outstanding offensive performances by Lenin Sanchez, Matt Brandy, and Skylar Fox. The SPC Titans are on the verge of turning their misfortune around and playing good baseball the rest of the season.

“With 18 freshman and 21 new players to the program, the first part of our season was learning and teaching the game of baseball. Our team has gained the experience necessary to be competitive and win baseball games the rest of the way. It will be fun to watch!”, stated Coach Beckman following Saturdays 2-1 win over Macomb Community College.
